Background of the founder of Family & Child Insight
Maria Kümpel Nørgaard is the founder of Family & Child Insight.
My educational background is a PhD in Family and Child Consumer Behaviour for Marketing Management from Aarhus University in 2010. Focus is threefold:
- To understand the behaviour and psychology of families and children, during their joint buying and consumption decision making
- To inspire by transforming this into respectful actionable insights and communicating it, to a broad public audience
- To recommend strategic directions and initiatives with economic and social responsible impact, to companies and organisations.
My passion is to deliver responsible strategic advices which make a difference for families and children, based on ethical research.
I have a master’s degree in Marketing Management. Focus is on strategic marketing based on market research, from Aarhus University in 2004.
I have a bachelor’s degree in business economics and administration, from Aarhus University in 2001.
This gives me a strong basis for delivering responsible research, insight, and strategies about families and children.
Specialised competences in understanding families and children, and setting strategic direction based on solid ethical research and insight
Understanding families and children through research, in an ethical responsible way, with the purpose to transform this into actionable insight for business strategies, is my specialisation, which can benefit you with a gain of economic and social responsible value.
My specialisation comes from more than 20 years of work experience with a mix of academic, business, and non-profit work. During this time, I have collaborated with many small, medium, and large companies and organisations in various countries.
My academic experience with a PhD and Post Doc at Aarhus University was centralised on children’s active participation and influence in family decision processes during food buying and consumption, as well as adolescents’ choice of snacks in a peer group context, with the purpose to use this understanding in strategic marketing and innovation to make children and families eat healthier food.
My business experience comes from the food and advertising industry doing research within innovation and marketing for strategic commercial purposes and customers. Here, my key competences are within doing research with families and children of practical relevance, transforming research into actionable insight, and making robust strategic recommendations based on this for e.g. product development, packaging, and creative communication.
My non-profit experience comes from being a Vice President and Director of Branding & Communication at a development organisation focusing on the social and ethical considerations about the respect of children’s voices in the world, the impacts of strategic initiatives on children, their life, and their development, and branding of these values with a social responsibility purpose. Latest, it comes from being a co-founder of and part of the ethical committee at the non-profit organisation United Co-Creation Lab.
